New Teacher Support
Starting your teaching journey is a big deal, and you don’t have to do it alone. Every new teacher deserves a strong start, and in NNPS you’ll find mentors and colleagues ready to support you, along with professional learning tailored to your needs. Our goal is simple: to help new teachers thrive, not just survive.
Mentor Program
Starting a teaching career is exciting, and NNPS makes sure new teachers don’t do it alone! Every first-year teacher is matched with a dedicated mentor who provides guidance, models effective practices, and offers encouragement throughout the year. Mentors help new educators navigate classroom challenges, build confidence, and grow their teaching skills in a supportive, collaborative way.
Want to pay it forward? We offer mentor training each summer for experienced teachers who are ready to guide and inspire the next generation. Learn more by visiting our Mentor Program website.
Instructional Coaching
In NNPS, support for teachers happens right where it matters most - in the classroom. Coaches, specialists, and supervisors partner with educators to provide real-time guidance, model strategies, and collaborate on lesson planning and instruction. This kind of hands-on, job-embedded support is practical, effective, and designed to help teachers strengthen their practice while making an immediate impact on students. New Teacher Institute
New NNPS teachers are supported through our New Teacher Institute (NTI), a multi-year program that helps our novice educators build confidence and strengthen their teaching.
NTI participants:
- Gain practical strategies in areas that matter most: building a positive classroom culture, planning effective lessons, delivering engaging instruction, and using assessment to guide student learning
- Connect with mentors and peers who provide support, encouragement, and shared learning
- Visit model classrooms to see great teaching in action and reflect on how to bring those ideas into their own practice
This ongoing support ensures every new teacher has the tools, encouragement, and experiences needed to grow and make a lasting impact on students.
This commitment to teacher growth was recently strengthened by a major community investment.
