Elementary Social Studies at NNPS

The Newport News Public Schools (NNPS) Elementary Social Studies Curriculum prepares students to become thoughtful citizens n a free and democratic society who are able to positively contribute to and impact their communities. Central to this purpose is the engagement of students in a comprehensive process of confronting multiple perspectives and dilemmas and encouraging our students to speculate, think critically, and make personal and civic decisions on information from multiple perspectives through inquiry.

NNPS offers a comprehensive science program based on the Virginia Standards of Learning History standards for instruction in kindergarten through 5th grade.
